Miami Dade College’s School of Continuing Education and Professional Development offers workforce training, adult education, and personal enrichment courses designed for learners of all ages and backgrounds. Programs range from English language and GED preparation to technology certifications, health care careers, construction trades, and business training, giving students a direct path to new skills, credentials, or career changes. 

MDC’s Adult Education Program includes three main options: ESOL (English for Speakers of other Languages), which helps non-native speakers build reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills; GED preparation, which supports students working toward a high school equivalency credential; and IET (Integrated Education and Training), which blends language and academic instruction with workforce training to prepare students for immediate entry into the job market. 

Beyond Adult Education, Continuing Education (CE) offers career-focused training in Technology (including Google Career Certificates and IBM Skills Academy), Health Care Careers (such as CNA/Certified Nursing Assistant), Construction Trades, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) prep, Business Programs, and industry certifications and licenses. Many of these programs are designed to be completed in months rather than years, leading directly to employment or an industry-recognized credential.

GATE (a career and technical education pathway) allows students to earn their GED and a vocational credential at the same time, in fields like health care, business, hospitality, or technology. It combines experienced instructors and hands-on training with academic and career support, so students leave with both a diploma equivalency and a job-ready credential.

For Adult Education, MDC uses an assessment process to determine each student’s current skill level and place them appropriately in ESOL, GED prep, or IET. Yes. MDC partners with recognized industry providers, including Google (Career Certificates), IBM (Skills Academy), and Apple (iOS Developer), and also offers standalone Certifications and Licenses programs.
